Great post. From the heart! Cover letters are several things. First, they should always be sent with your resume. They are basic business etiquette, so make a good first impression. It is also an opportunity to introduce yourself and more importantly, to impress. Resumes are more technical. They are a lists of information. A resume cover letter is a little bit of personality, a little bit of salesmanship and an opportunity to outshine others who don't take it seriously.

You didn't SAY what you gave up....or for what you had to fight. The concept of stepping outside the norm is sound, and you seem to have avoided becoming a "template", but where's the courage in that? The definition of courage is to be afraid but to move forward in spite of your fear. Did you do that? Perhaps. But you didn't make it clear to the reader.

"Live never to be ashamed if anything you say or do is published around the world, even if what is said is not true." --Richard Bach

It does take courage to truly know yourself; even more so to express your uniqueness in a world where differences and nonconformists are riduculed. The most interesting people are the ones who deviate from the norm though. They also tend to have the most fun. Certainly, they are the most free.

Great post, Jaime.

I did pick a career at a young age, started it at age 22 and spent nearly 20 years pursuing it. Eventually, I had to be done with it. I probably would have chosen a different field, or at least refined the career I did choose, but even so, I still think the courage to pursue what I love most would not have been present until my 40's anyway. I think my choices were still fine for me despite the eventual pain and burnout, and your career track is perfect for you. Who cares if you discovered what you love at age 29? At least now you know yourself much better! Congratulations.

Planning things out is so much more fun and easier to do than actually writing. What helps me sometimes is to start in the middle of a book I'm writing. At the beginning I already see some scenes that I'm excited about and can't wait to write; I sit down and write those first, then attach them to the book later.

Best of luck!
